God’s Equipment- The 24 Gifts of the Holy Spirit Home Base Ministry- God’s Equipment- The 24 Gifts of the Holy Spirit
3
4 There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. 6 And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. 7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all:
4
8 for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit,
5
10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. 11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.
6
Part One: The Context of Body Ministry
7
In I Corinthians 12, Paul uses “Church” 1x, “Body” 18x, “All” 9x, “whole” 2x, leading to 30 plus references in this chapter identifying this discussion as referring to the gifts of the Spirit used in the church services.
8
The purpose is established in verse 7… “But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all:”
9
The literary context of Chapter 12 focuses on the church; This is important as it establishes the difference between teaching concerning tongues used in church verses tongues as the initial physical evidence of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit.
10
I Corinthians 12:30 includes “Do all speak with tongues”; the implied answer is no. The literary context of being in church clearly means that not everyone gives a message in tongues at church.
11
In no way does verse 30 imply that tongues is not the initial physical evidence of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit for everyone. To imply that would be using the verse out of context and deceptively distorting the meaning.
12
Part Two: The Spiritual Gifts

Part Three: The Operation of the Gifts
18
I Corinthians 13 is all about LOVE being essential to the gifts. I Corinthians 14 is all about EDIFICATION being essential to the gifts. Quick notes from I Cor. 14.
19
It’s all about edification… vs. 12 “12 Even so you, since you are zealous for spiritual gifts, let it be for the edification of the church that you seek to excel.” Et al. Speak loudly, clearly and tenderly. Edification, exhortation and comfort.
20
Tongues and Interpretation combined are equal to prophecy because they edify the whole body (vs. 5). Tongues is both for personal prayer and worship as well as corporate message.
21
Paul was in no way putting tongues down. He called us to imitate him and said that he speaks in tongues more than all of them (vs. 18). Everyone can participate, taking turns and within wise limits. Let all things be done decently and in order.
