Flat Stanley’s Adventures Texas and Florida

Stanley’s arrival in Dallas, Texas I arrived in Dallas on November 30, 2008. I probably flew on an airplane but arrived in an envelope. Mary Jo took me to Florida the following week. She also took me around Dallas and Irving, TX (even to her place of work).

My flight to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida December 12-17, 2008 I got to walk on the beach. I got to swim in the Atlantic Ocean I rode on an airboat through the Everglades I saw turtles and alligators Mary Jo even held a baby alligator Then we flew back to Mary Jo’s home in Irving, TX

Waiting for our flight to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida Flight safety is very important. Always pay attention to the flight attendants! It was an early flight, I was tired!!! Window seat!!!

I arrived to find a gift from our friend, Linda. A huge teddy bear named Joey. He and I played a lot when we weren’t out sightseeing!

Fishing pier at Ft. Lauderdale Beach (cloudy day) Ft. Lauderdale Beach (sunny day) Me on the beach, dressed to go swimming!

Bird on the beach who wanted us to feed her. We didn’t have anything to feed her so she squawked at us loudly!!!

Airboat ride in the Everglades Airboats are especially designed to ‘skim’ across the water. Due to the wildlife in the water, the motor is not down in the water. There are fans on the back of the boat that make it move. It’s a lot of fun to ride in one!

A friendly egret at the Sawgrass Park (waiting for an airboat ride). Baby alligator being held by employee.

View from the airboat. Cattails and sawgrass are found throughout the Everglades Sawgrass feels like a saw and helps wildlife catch bugs and other ‘critters’ for food Everglades is not a ‘swamp’ but clear, fresh water This is where the state of Florida gets its fresh water Water is freezing! Alligators, birds, fish all live in the Everglades

Mary Jo holding a baby alligator. She said its skin was not slimy but felt like leather. The handler had to tape its mouth shut before Mary Jo could hold it. Turtles at the Sawgrass park

My Adventures in Texas I stayed here waiting for the bluebonnets to bloom (state flower). We visited the old Cowboy stadium. We then visited the new Cowboy stadium. We also drove my Six Flags but I didn’t want to go on any rides. Dallas is also home to former President George Bush and his wife, Laura.

Texas Continued Mary Jo bought me a cowboy hat so I would fit in with the other cowboys.
