17 Jeremiah 36 - Obeyed Not The Word of God revealed to Jeremiah (36:1-3)
The Word of God recorded by Baruch (36:4) The Word of God read to the people (36:5-10) The Word of God received by the princes (36:11-19) The Word of God rejected by the king (36:20-26) The Word of God rewritten by Baruch (36:27-32)

18 The Word of God revealed to Jeremiah
Jeremiah 36: And it came to pass in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, that this word came unto Jeremiah from Jehovah, saying, 2 Take thee a roll of a book, and write therein all the words that I have spoken unto thee against Israel, and against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spake unto thee, from the days of Josiah, even unto this day. 3 It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do unto them; that they may return every man from his evil way; that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin.

19 The Word of God recorded by Baruch
Jeremiah 36:4 Then Jeremiah called Baruch the son of Neriah; and Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of Jehovah, which he had spoken unto him, upon a roll of a book.

20 The Word of God read to the people
Jeremiah 36:8 And Baruch the son of Neriah did according to all that Jeremiah the prophet commanded him, reading in the book the words of Jehovah in Jehovah's house.

21 The Word of God received by the princes
Jeremiah 36:12 he went down into the king's house, into the scribe's chamber: and, lo, all the princes were sitting there, to wit, Elishama the scribe, and Delilah the son of Shemaiah, and Elnathan the son of Achbor, and Gemariah the son of Shaphan, and Zedekiah the son of Hananiah, and all the princes.

22 The Word of God rejected by the king
Jeremiah 36: Now the king was sitting in the winter-house in the ninth month: and there was a fire in the brazier burning before him. 23 And it came to pass, when Jehudi had read three or four leaves, that the king cut it with the penknife, and cast it into the fire that was in the brazier, until all the roll was consumed in the fire that was in the brazier.

23 The Word of God rewritten by Baruch
Jeremiah 36:27, Then the word of Jehovah came to Jeremiah, after that the king had burned the roll, and the words which Baruch wrote at the mouth of Jeremiah 32 Then took Jeremiah another roll, and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah, who wrote therein from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire; and there were added besides unto them many like words.

24 Jeremiah for Today God’s written word is the same as God’s spoken God
Jeremiah 36: And they asked Baruch, saying, Tell us now, How didst thou write all these words at his mouth? 18 Then Baruch answered them, He pronounced all these words unto me with his mouth, and I wrote them with ink in the book.

25 Jeremiah for Today God’s written word is the same as God’s spoken God
2 Timothy 3: All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

26 Jeremiah for Today The same God that proclaims his word, preserves his word. You cannot destroyed the word of God Jeremiah 36: Then the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, after that the king had burned the roll, and the words which Baruch wrote at the mouth of Jeremiah, saying, 28 Take thee again another roll, and write in it all the former words that were in the first roll, which Jehoiakim the king of Judah hath burned.

27 Jeremiah for Today The same God that proclaims his word, preserves his word. You cannot destroyed the word of God 1 Peter 1:25 But the word of the Lord endures for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

28 Jeremiah for Today Some are calloused toward God’s word
Jeremiah 36: Yet they were not afraid, nor rent their garments, neither the king, nor any of his servants that heard all these words. 25 Nevertheless Elnathan and Delaiah and Gemariah had made intercession to the king that he would not burn the roll: but he would not hear them.

29 Jeremiah for Today Some are calloused toward God’s word
Romans 2:5 5 But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasures up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God; Hebrews 3:13 But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

36 Jeremiah for Today Chapters 37-39
If we turn away from obeying God’s word, God will not hear our prayer Jeremiah 37: But neither he, nor his servants, nor the people of the land, did hearken unto the words of the Lord, which he spake by the prophet Jeremiah. 3 And Zedekiah the king sent Jehucal the son of Shelemiah and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest to the prophet Jeremiah, saying, Pray now unto the Lord our God for us.

37 Jeremiah for Today Chapters 37-39
If we turn away from obeying God’s word, God will not hear our prayer 1 Peter 3:12 For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.

38 Jeremiah for Today Chapters 37-39
God wants prayer and repentance, not just prayer Jeremiah 37:3 And Zedekiah the king sent Jehucal the son of Shelemiah and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest to the prophet Jeremiah, saying, Pray now unto the Lord our God for us.

39 Jeremiah for Today Chapters 37-39

40 Jeremiah for Today Chapters 37-39
God’s people can be deceived by the world Jeremiah 37:9 Thus saith the Lord; Deceive not yourselves, saying, The Chaldeans shall surely depart from us: for they shall not depart.

41 Jeremiah for Today Chapters 37-39
God’s people can be deceived by the world Matthew 24:4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. Ephesians 5:6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.

42 Jeremiah for Today Chapters 37-39
God does not change his answer at different times Jeremiah 37:17 Then Zedekiah the king sent, and took him out: and the king asked him secretly in his house, and said, Is there any word from the Lord? And Jeremiah said, There is: for, said he, thou shalt be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon.

43 Jeremiah for Today Chapters 37-39
God does not change his answer at different times (Jer. 37:17; Jude 3) Jude 1:3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.

44 Jeremiah for Today Chapters 37-39
All that would live godly will suffer persecution Jeremiah 38:15 Then Jeremiah said unto Zedekiah, If I declare it unto thee, wilt thou not surely put me to death? and if I give thee counsel, wilt thou not hearken unto me?

45 Jeremiah for Today Chapters 37-39
All that would live godly will suffer persecution Acts 16: And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison, charging the jailor to keep them safely: 24 Who, having received such a charge, thrust them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks.

46 Jeremiah for Today Chapters 37-39
God’s way may seem foolish, but it is the right way Jeremiah 38:17 Then said Jeremiah unto Zedekiah, Thus saith the Lord, the God of hosts, the God of Israel; If thou wilt assuredly go forth unto the king of Babylon's princes, then thy soul shall live, and this city shall not be burned with fire; and thou shalt live, and thine house:

47 Jeremiah for Today Chapters 37-39
God’s way may seem foolish, but it is the right way Jeremiah 38:18 But if thou wilt not go forth to the king of Babylon's princes, then shall this city be given into the hand of the Chaldeans, and they shall burn it with fire, and thou shalt not escape out of their hand.

48 Jeremiah for Today Chapters 37-39
God’s way may seem foolish, but it is the right way 1 Corinthians 1:18, For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.

49 Jeremiah for Today Chapters 37-39
Fear and peer pressure keep some from obeying the truth Jeremiah 38: And Zedekiah the king said unto Jeremiah, I am afraid of the Jews that are fallen to the Chaldeans, lest they deliver me into their hand, and they mock me.

50 Jeremiah for Today Chapters 37-39

51 Jeremiah for Today Chapters 37-39
God does not forget acts of faithfulness Jeremiah 39: Now Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon gave charge concerning Jeremiah to Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard, saying, 12 Take him, and look well to him, and do him no harm; but do unto him even as he shall say unto thee.
