Psalm 19 : 7-11 (NKJV) The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. 10 More to be desired are they than gold, Yea, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. 11 Moreover by them Your servant is warned, And in keeping them there is great reward.

The Power Of God’s Word Psalm 19:7-11
4
The Power of God’s Word When we think about God’s word, what comes to our minds? Some think of God and all of His creation Some think of the wonderful love He has for us all Some think of the salvation that is so freely offered through it
5
The Power of God’s Word Do we think about the power that God’s word contains? Paul pointed out the power that it had in Romans 1:16 The gospel has the power to change lives! (Heb. 4:12)
6
The Power of God’s Word Certainly God’s word is a source of power and strength for each of us That’s why we look to it so often when we need guidance and encouragement Psalm 19 tells us that God’s word is also the source of some other very important things…
7
The Power of God’s Word 1. Spiritual Renewal (v. 7)
“The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul” Converting = to turn back (again); revive We all have times in our lives when we fall into a spiritual slump Even Peter had those moments (John 21)
8
The Power of God’s Word 1. Spiritual Renewal (v. 7)
David later wrote that God restored His soul (Ps. 23:3) The word of God is able to save our souls (Js. 1:21) In times of spiritual weariness, we need to turn to God’s word for that strength and encouragement (Is. 40:31)
9
The Power of God’s Word 1. Spiritual Renewal (v. 7)
When the word of God was read to the people, and they understood, they experienced a renewal (Neh. 8:9-12) God’s word can build us up, just as it built up the elders at Ephesus (Acts 20:32) We need to tap into the power of His word!
10
The Power of God’s Word 2. Practical Wisdom (v. 7)
God’s word is also a source of the wisdom that we need in life David says that even the simple can be made wise Acts 4:13 – Even uneducated and untrained men can be made wise through God’s word
11
The Power of God’s Word 2. Practical Wisdom (v. 7)
James tells us that we will need wisdom as we face trials in life (Js. 1:1-8) He also tells us that the wisdom we seek comes from God We obviously get that through His word, as well as prayer (ex. II Tim. 3:15)
12
The Power of God’s Word 3. Faith Vision (v. 8)
God’s word reveals to us how we should walk in this life We walk by faith and not by sight (II Cor. 5:7) We view life and it’s direction through spiritual lenses
13
The Power of God’s Word 3. Faith Vision (v. 8)
God’s word gives us knowledge as well as wisdom Peter tells us to add knowledge to our faith (II Pet. 1:5) Most importantly it shows us our sinfulness and need for salvation (II Tim. 3:15-17)
14
The Power of God’s Word 4. Confident Living (v. 9)
“The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether” Knowing that God’s word is true and righteous, we can have confidence in following it John said we can know that we have eternal life (I Jn. 5:13)
15
The Power of God’s Word 4. Confident Living (v. 9)
“And they (Zacharias & Elizabeth) were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless” (Lk. 1:6) They could have confidence in their living because they walked according to God’s word
16
The Power of God’s Word 5. Daily Guidance (v. 11)
According to David here, God’s word guides or warns us The idea behind the word warned here is “to throw light on a subject, so as to show it clearly; that is, to make the duty plain, and the consequences plain” (Albert Barnes, Psalms)
17
The Power of God’s Word 5. Daily Guidance (v. 11)
We might think of it as the daily warnings or guidance that a parent gives their children, so that they will remain out of harms way The word of God is like the warning signal to us, but it is up to you and I as to whether or not we heed it (Ezek. 33:3-9)
