3. Madison won again in the election of 1812. He wanted to go to war against Britain. Congress approved the declaration of war in June of 1812. James Madison (D-R) beat Charles Pinckney (Federalist) in the election of 1808.

5. The U.S. is unprepared for war. They suffer defeats at first, however, they rebound and won several battles. Remember, the Native Americans align with the British.

6. The British were able to blockade the U.S. shoreline. This kept many American ships in their ports.
