Filling out your Challenge EDPs
2
Science Technology Engineering Engineering Arts Math You will be given a challenge question or problem that you will have to build or construct something to solve or figure out. These are your “STEAM Challenges”
4
To get a grade for a STEAM Challenge, you have to show me how you and/or your group completed the EDP. Every STEAM Challenge we do, you will need to complete and turn in your EDP. We’re going to do a sample EDP today so you understand what it looks like and how to fill it out. You need to keep this sample in your STEAM folder in the pronged section so you can look back on it if you need to.
5
Title of the Challenge goes here!!
6
Write the problem you are trying to solve. What are you trying to do or build? What is your question?
7
What are the requirements of the finished product? What supplies are you given? DO you have a time limit?
8
Brainstorm! List PROBABLE solutions. Think of strategies that may solve your question.
9
Identify your idea/strategy. Why did you select this one? What about it makes you think it will work?
10
A Prototype is a fancy word for “model.” Draw a picture and/or describe what you are building. Include measurements!!!
11
Explain what worked on your prototype and what did not. What will you change to make it better? Was it so bad that you have to start all over?
12
Please note that you are not beginning to build or construct ANYTHING until Step #5: Prototype. This means you have four full steps and four boxes to fill in on your EDP before you even begin to build. Completed EDPs will need to be placed in the pronged section of your STEAM folder. The newest ones should go in the back. If you need additional paper to answer Challenge questions, add that sheet behind your EDP
13
They will be considered a “quiz grade” which counts for 25% of your final grade. QUALITY!! If they are too sloppy to read, you will have to redo them. If they are incomplete or do not get a grade you are happy with, you may redo them on your own time (homework!) and turn them in when you are happy with the quality of your work. If you are absent a day we do a STEAM challenge, you will be excused from the challenge and the EDP.
