AIMS Workshop Heidelberg, 9-11 March 1998 Prospect Inter-Domain Management of IP-based Multimedia Teleservices Dr. Ralf Bracht, IBM
2
AIMS Workshop Heidelberg, 9-11 March 1998 Prospect Objectives Demonstrate, via a commercial/business end-user trial, the integrated (end-to-end) multi-domain management of multimedia services, in a multi-service provider and broadband network environment: –management architecture for co-operating multimedia teleservices. –apply emerging technologies for architecture realisation. –end-user access to end-to-end management services. –evaluate the end-to-end management system.

AIMS Workshop Heidelberg, 9-11 March 1998 Service Customer Aim: obtain easy-to-use, cost-effective telecommunications services for their end-users –hide complexity and composite nature of services from end- users: integration at end-user’s desktop using WWW technology, CORBA and Java. –provide on-line service management functionality: subscribe to services, configure services. check accounting details. check service performance.
7
AIMS Workshop Heidelberg, 9-11 March 1998 Teleservice Provider Aims: reduce the cost of providing services; ability to introduce new services quickly; better customer service –component-based service development: off-the-shelf components for subscription and accounting. open interfaces (CORBA). –access and session control (TINA): secure access controlled via subscription management and dual key authentication. –on-line service management and service personalisation: automation of service management processes. personal service profiles and mobility support.
8
AIMS Workshop Heidelberg, 9-11 March 1998 Composite Service Provider Challenge: composite provider must perform management interactions with a range of different teleservice providers –adoption of common interfaces: re-use of interface specifications, adaptation of interface implementations. –access and session control for provider-provider interactions: secure inter-domain management interactions. –monitoring of SLA violations between teleservice providers.
9
AIMS Workshop Heidelberg, 9-11 March 1998 Communication Service Provider Aim: provide end-to-end connectivity in a multi-owner, multi- technology, multi-vendor environment –access and session control for management interactions: request of connectivity services across administrative domains. –integrated with ATM provider’s management system: dynamic CORBA-CMIP gateway according to JIDM specification. –integrated with customer premises network management systems.
