© beas group 2011 / Page 4 Learning Targets After working through the lesson, you will be able to: Create and manage parallel resources

© beas group 2011 / Page 6 Parallel resourcea Introduction What are parallel resources? Resources, that must be used at the same time.

© beas group 2011 / Page 7 Parallel resource Types of parallel resource be.as offers the following types of parallel resources:  Tools with the same start and end date.  Parallel resources with the same start and end date, with any degree of utilization.  Alternative parallel resources.  Overlapping work sequences.

© beas group 2011 / Page 8 Parallel resource Tools Tools are always available 24 hours, there is no shift calendar To restrain availability use the switch „blocked until“ in the tools master sheet Tools are only taken into consideration, if capacity planning is activated

© beas group 2011 / Page 9 Parallel resource Tools : setup Insert tools in the routing in tab „tool“. Now the routing can be scheduled only at times when the tools are available.

© beas group 2011 / Page 10 Parallel resource Tools : setup a parallel alternative tool Insert a parallel alternative tool by enabling the switch : defines cycle time“. The expected time is deposited in the tool and transferred to the work sequence when activated. In the structure view as well as in the APS view you can switch between tools. Automated optimization or tool selection is not possible.

© beas group 2011 / Page 12 Parallel resources general Setup the parallel resource in routing: tab “parallel” With a parallel resources, a work sequence can be processed on multiple resources in parallel. Example: machine and employee or a several machines. Parallel resources as well as the operation itself can be logged on and logged off. All parallel resources always have the same start and end date. Therefore no separate job time or setup time is possible. The degree of utilization is adjustable, if you set to 50%, with a lead time of 1 hour, the resource will be loaded with 30 minutes.

© beas group 2011 / Page 13 Parallel resources capacity check If the degree of utilization is set to 100% and the resource limits are checked according to resource master sheet, then the operation can only be dispatched at the time, when both the main resource and the parallel resource are available. If you set a degree of utilization different from 100% or there are more than 1 employe/machine available for this resource, then only the daily capacity is checked. (Check to prevent utilization of more than 100%)

© beas group 2011 / Page 14 Parallel resources APS view In the APS parallele resources are displayed in the lower domain. To activate: tab „Resource“ - switch „resource“

© beas group 2011 / Page 15 Parallel resources different shift schedule If for the main and the parallel resource different shift schedules are existing, the schedule with the later start date is used. Example: Main resource (machine) 0:00 Operator (employee): 8:00 Time is reserved from: 8:00

© beas group 2011 / Page 16 Agenda Parallel resources 1: Introduction 2: Tool with same start/end date 3: Parallel resource with the same start/end date 4: Alternative parallel resources 4: Overlapping operations

© beas group 2011 / Page 17 Parallel resources Alternative parallel resources Parallel resourcen can also have alternative resources. Example: To the machine „1202“ employee group „INJ_INT“ as well as „INJ_EXT“ can be assigned. To do so, enable the switch „alternative“ at all concerning resources.

© beas group 2011 / Page 18 Parallel resources Alternative parallel resources In the work order, you can select the parallel resource. Restrictions: you can have an unlimited number of parallel resources and ONE alternative-parallel resource

© beas group 2011 / Page 19 Parallel resources Alternative parallel resources: optimization be.as scheduling function allows to optimize parallel-alternative resources. Enable „optimization“ in the work sequence. Under consideration of existing time reservations, the parallel resource with the shortest lead time is used. For further information see training unit „resource optimization“

© beas group 2011 / Page 20 Agenda Parallel resources 1: Introduction 2: Tool with same start/end date 3: Parallel resource with the same start/end date 4: Alternative parallel resources 4: Overlapping operations

© beas group 2011 / Page 21 Parallel resources Overlapping operations Usually the following operation starts when the previous one is finished. The overlap limit determines how long after the start of the first operation, the second one can be started in parallel. In the given example, the second operation starts one hour after the first ended.

© beas group 2011 / Page 22 Parallel resources Overlapping operations: APS view In the APS view overlapping is displayed: one hour in this example. Overlapping operations may have different lead time. The following operation can start at the earliest: start date + overlap limit of the previous operation. If there is no time available for the overlapping operation, the overlapping limit is ignored and the next empty time frame is used.

© beas group 2011 / Page 23 Parallel resources Overlapping operations: restrictions Restrictions: -Calculation of overlapping operations works only with forward scheduling -If the lead time (overlapping operation + overlap limit) is shorter than the lead time of the main operation, a correct computation is not possible. -If capacity limits are taken into account and there are not enough resources available, the overlap limit is ignored.

© beas group 2011 / Page 24 Summary You can now: Create and manage parallel resources

Thank you for your cooperation!
