When planning a training programme it is important to consider principles of effective practice to ensure your training is meaningful, reflects your ability and challenges you. This will allow you to achieve the best possible results from your session. What should be considered? Session should be planned Current performance level Targets Work:rest Progressive practices

It is important that your lesson is planned and structured. Warm up Practice/skills session Small sided games

Practices should be relevant to: Strengths/weaknesses - Select appropriate practicies to develop your weakness. Stage of learning - Select the correct method of practice for that stage of learning

Set targets for yourself in your training programme. Targets should be realistic and achievable. This gives you something to aim for and can help keep motivation levels high and maintain levels of concentration Helps monitor your progress.

This is very important as the correct work:rest will help you avoid many problems such as: Physical fatigue Mental fatigue Injury Boredom Frustration Drop in skill level

You should ensure that your practices are: Progressive Varied Suitable to performance level Performing at wrong stage or continuous practice of same drill can lead to lack of concentration and motivation As skill level increases, practices should become more difficult. Eventually performers will be able to cope with the pressure they will experience in a game.
