FFA Chapter Leadership & Officers

Chapter Leadership What is leadership? –Definition: Influence –What does influence look like in our chapter? –What can you do to influence your chapter and community?

Chapter Leadership One way to lead in the chapter is by serving as a chapter officer Officers are elected on a yearly (annual) bases

General duties expected of all officers. 1. genuine desire to be a part of a leadership team. 2. A willingness to accept responsibility 3. A sincere desire to work with all chapter members in meeting their leadership, personal and chapter goals. 4. A commitment to lead by example 5. Knowledge and understanding of the chapter, state, and national FFA constitution, bylaws and programs. 6. A working knowledge of parliamentary procedure. 7. The ability to memorize official ceremonies »There are 7 general duties expected of all officers.

President Preside over meeting Appoint committees Coordinate Activities of the chapter and evaluate the progress Represent the chapter in public relations and official functions

Vice President Assume all duties of President if necessary. Develop POA committees and serve as an ex-officio non-voting members of all committees. Coordinate committee work Work closely with the president and advisor to assess progress of meeting the chapters goals.

Secretary Prepare and post agenda for each meeting. Prepare and present minutes of each chapter meeting. Responsible for chapter correspondence. Maintain membership attendance and activity records.

Treasurer Record FFA funds and issue receipts. Present a monthly treasurers report to the chapter. Collects dues and special assessments. Serve as chairperson of the finance committee.

Reporter Serve as chairperson of the Public Relations Committee. Release News and information to the local and regional news media. Publish a chapter newsletter and assist the advisor in updating the chapter webpage. Prepare and maintain the chapter scrapbook. Serve as chapter photographer.

Sentinel Assist the President in maintaining order. Keep the meeting room, chapter equipment and supplies in proper condition. Welcome guest and visitors. Assist with special features.

Advisor Supervise chapter activities year-round. Inform prospective students about the FFA Instruct student in leadership and personal development. Build school and community support for the program. Encourage involvement of chapter members in all activities. Prepare students for involvement in career development events (CDEs) and leadership programs.

Additional Possible Officers Historian – Assist the Reporter in proving photography for the chapter Parliamentarian – Serve as a participant or an ex-officio member of the conduct of meeting committee. Chaplain – Conduct reflection services at summer retreats, camps, and conferences.
