5 RESPECT FOR ALL Awards Respect for all week is February 10th-14 th, 2014 The Respect for All Award is designed to recognize schools’ work to promote respect for all during the 2012-13 school year Schools that have met initial eligibility requirements for the Respect for All Award will receive an email on January 15 inviting them to submit an application to be named a Respect For All School.

7 RFA Award Application Process Schools that have met initial eligibility requirements will be invited by the Office of Safety and Youth Development via email to submit an application to be named a Respect For All School. Awards will be announced during Respect For All Week February 10-14, 2014. A school’s application must be completed with input from the School Leadership Team. All applications must be submitted by 6 pm on January 28, 2014. The application (cover sheet plus a maximum of 6 pages) must be sent as an attachment to RespectForAllAward@schools.nyc.gov

8 RFA Award Questions (p1) A.Briefly describe the process the school uses to create its yearly Respect For All plan. Include the names (and titles, if applicable) of all individuals and/or groups that contributed to the plan. (5 points) B.Describe the instructional/curricular component(s), co-curricular activities, specific programs, special events, initiatives, etc. in which the school engaged throughout the 2012-2013 school year, and those implemented and/or planned for this school year, to promote respect for diversity and prevent harassment/bullying behavior. Please include both whole school and specific grade level work as well as any efforts in which parents/families were involved. Please indicate the work completed during the 2012-2013 school year and the work already implemented and/or the initiatives planned for the 2013-2014 school year. (25 points)

9 RFA Award Questions (p2) Students are the largest stakeholder group in any school community. Please describe any initiatives in which students played a key role in promoting respect for diversity and preventing harassment/bullying behavior to their peers. Please indicate the work completed during the 2012-2013 school year and the work already implemented and/or the initiatives planned for the 2013-2014 school year. (15 points)

10 USDOE Discipline Guidance Package The U.S. Department of Education (ED), in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), released a school discipline guidance package that will assist states, districts and schools in developing practices and strategies to enhance school climate, and ensure those policies and practices comply with federal law. Focus on disproportionality of students who miss school for minor infractions and students of color and with disabilities are disproportionately impacted www.ed.gov/school-discipline
