Equivalent Ratios How to Determine and Find Equivalent Ratios
3
Equivalent Ratios Ratios are considered equivalent if they represent the same quantities. For example, 2 treats: 1 dog = 4 treats: 2 dogs You multiplied the numbers in the first ratio by 2. If you perform an operation on one number, you have to do the same to the other number and vice versa.
4
You can also reduce ratios to make them equivalent. 40 dogs 8 dogs ---------- = ------------ 20 water bowls4 water bowls You divided each number on the top and bottom by 5, keeping the ratios equivalent. You can only use multiplication and division, never addition and subtraction!!!
