Content Area: Social Studies Grade: 5 th Summary: The purpose of this presentation is for students to gain knowledge about the Great Depression and the effects it had on people around in the United States and around the world. Learning Objective: Given related facts and dates about the Great Depression, the student will be able to identify events and facts that caused the Great Depression on a quiz with 80% accuracy. State Standards: SS 5.1 Describe the effects that the Great Depression had on people in the United States and around the world. The Wall Street Crash of 1929 was one of the main causes of the Great Depression. On “Black Tuesday,” October 29, 1929, the stock market lost $14 billion, making the loss for that week $30 billion. A weak banking system, over-production of goods, over spending, and a bursting credit bubble were some of the other reasons that the Great Depression took place as well.
