Technical support provided by: Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza Control Programme Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Market Chain cleaning and disinfection training
2
2 Three dangerous things when conducting C&D in poultry market chain 1. Bird Flu Virus may infect human 2. Disinfectant chemical that causes poisonous 3. High Pressure Washer wounded, physical defect
3
3 Attention !! Don’t point the sprayer toward human or animal
4
4 How does human expose to AI virus? Virus get into the body usually through respiration (lungs) N95 mask will give protection! Other types DO NOT GIVE PROTECTION! Clothes Surgical mask
5
5 Why is disinfectant dangerous substance? Be careful when using disinfectant since it may cause: Acute poisonous (rapid) caused by disinfectant headache, breathing difficulty, and itchiness on eyes or skin. Chronically poisonous (slow) happens in a long period of time permanent paralysis
6
6 Poisonous Chemical substance get into human body through 3 ways: 1. Through LUNGS when it is inhaled through breathing 2. Through MOUTH when eating, drinking and smoking 3. Through SKIN and EYES when splashed
7
7 A splash on the EYE is absorbed 12 X faster compared on to the HANDS EYES = 12 Legs = 2 Groin = 11 Stomach = 2 Arms = 1 Hand palm = 1.3 Ears = 5.4 Scalp= 3.7 Face = 4.2 Nose = 6
8
8 1. Protect eyes, nose and face Contamination on the eyes may be caused by: Sprinkled/splashed/spilled by chemical substance Rubbing eyes with dirty hand/clothes. Chemical is absorbed very quickly through eyes. MUST use goggle when using chemical substance. How to protect ourselves?
9
9 2. BODY Protection Trousers to cover leg’s skin Apron to protect groin Apron is made from Nylon is better, easy to be used and washed/cleaned. Rubber boots to protect legs NO
10
10 3. Hands and Arms Protection Highest absorption through SKIN happens when temperature is HIGH and skin is SWEATING. The longer chemical contacts with skin THE FASTER IT WILL BE ABSORBED BY THE BODY The best gloves is: Covering upper arms Perfect size with the hand Resistant to dangerous chemical Lower part should be folded when spraying upward
11
11 REMEMBER When conducting CLEANING & DISINFECTION activity, you MUST use: Mask (N95 protects against Bird Flu) Google Rubber boots Gloves Trousers and apron
12
Personal Biosecurity Personal your own Biosecurity Safe from dangerous substance THUS An effort to protect ourselves from exposure to dangerous substance
13
ALWAYS WASH HANDS AND FACE WITH SOAP 1.Holding birds 2.Wash 3.Disinfect Eating Drinking Smoking Scratching Rubbing etc
14
Wash clothes and all equipments used with detergent Take shower after conducting an activity Consume sufficient food/vitamin Wash boots after used
15
Washing Boots Dip the boots to detergent solution brush the boots particularly on the downward part Rub completely until all dirt removed Dip the boots to disinfectant solution If there is sticking dirt, scrub with a brush that has been dipped into disinfectant solution Ensure all garbage have been put into rubbish bin. Change detergent and disinfectant solution when they look dirty
16
