2 What and Who is NEH? WHAT: NEH stands for the National Endowment for the Humanities It’s a 3 year grant which was awarded to Mission College Through a formal application process, all faculty had the opportunity to be involved in the implementation of the grant From the applicants, 3 Mission College Faculty were selected and flown to Hawaii for a one-week grant overview and training WHO: The 3 selected faculty are: Char Perlas (Counseling), Margaret Juncker (English), and Myo Myint (ESL)

4 NEH Grant Objective NEH wants colleges to create opportunities for students that result in the following: Raising cultural awareness and bridging the gap of understanding between cultures; Educating our students about Southeast Asian and Asian Culture and History with the aim of making them more marketable global citizens, particularly as Asian countries continue to rise and impact the global economy.

5 Mission College’s Implementation Plan Certificate, Asian Culture – 18 Units Core:History 31 History of East Asia Human 007 International Films Human 020 Asian Roots and Culture Human 030 Cultural Studies Elective (choose 1 or more from list to total 3 units)

AA, Humanities with emphasis in Asian Culture GE – 24 Units Major Core – 18 Units (certificate courses) Major Electives – Choose min. 15 units from the course list *Additional Elective units required when GE and Major units = >60 AA Liberal Arts, Arts & Humanities w/ emphasis in Asian Culture AA Liberal Arts, Social & Behavioral Sciences w/ emphasis in Asian Culture GE – 24 Units Major Core – Students choose 18 units from the list of applicable courses (see course list) *Additional Elective units required when GE and Major units = >60
