Lesson 11.1 Parts of a Circle Pages 589 - 590
2
Parts of a Circle A chord is a segment whose endpoints are points on a circle. A diameter is a chord that passes through the center of the circle. A radius is a segment whose endpoints are the center of a circle and a point on the circle.
3
Parts of a Circle A secant is a line that intersects the circle in two points. A tangent is a line in the plane of a circle that intersects the circle in exactly one point. A point of tangency is the point where a tangent line intersects the circle.

Identify the following: Chord: Tangent Radius Center of circle Point of tangency Diameter Secant B C H A F E J K
6
Coordinate Circles Name the coordinates of the center of each circle Name the coordinates of the intersection of the two circles What line is tangent to both circles? Name the coordinates of the point of tangency What is the length of the diameter of circle B? What is the length of the radius of circle A?
