GROWTH MINDSET VS FIXED MINDSET Intelligence can be developed The brain is malleable Doing challenging work is the best way to make the brain stronger and smarter Students who have a growth mindset do better in school Math = growth

MIDDLE SCHOOL MATHEMATICS Throughout the year, students will continue to work from the lessons provided in their text book, Holt Mathematics. This course covers concepts on number sense operations statistics and graphing, fraction concepts and operations integers within Algebra focuses on important, grade level strands that are a part of the yearly progression.

INCORPORATING STRATEGIES NEEDED TO BECOME GOOD PROBLEM SOLVERS TEACHES US HOW TO LEARN TO THINK THROUGH A PROBLEM. STRATEGIES SUCH AS…….. drawing a diagram making a model predicting and testing, working backward making an organized list finding a pattern making a table solving a simpler problem and writing an equation

EXPECTATIONS Class Routine Warm up / Review Directed lesson and guided note taking independent practice according to abilities Checking for understanding / monitoring

HOMEWORK - Homework is assigned every night, typically - Homework is collected daily - Homework will also be on Moodle, board, notes - Calculators: not allowed

ASSESSMENTS Chapter Tests 2 days notice before a test review game of some sort during class A study guide will be provided before a test Typically multiple choice and/or open ended questions according to abilities Mid Chapter Quizzes 1 day notice before a quiz A review sheet will be provided prior to a quiz -
