What is the Postgraduate Research Experience Survey? Survey of postgraduate research students across the UK* Commissioned by the Higher Education Academy Fully supported by our Students’ Union and the National Union of Students Quick and easy to complete. * 115 institutions participating in 2015

What will the PRES ask me? Widely recognised as a key measure of the student experience, the survey looks at a range of areas including: Supervision Resources Research Culture Progress and Assessment Responsibilities Research Skills Professional development Opportunities Overall Experience GW4 Induction Professional Doctorates Assessment and Feedback Learning technology Training for GTAs And at the University of Bath you we also ask you some additional questions on: The Graduate Centre Academic skills Peer Mentoring Student Support and Welfare Student Voice Students’ Union and the Postgraduate Association

How are the results used? Institutions (& their Students’ Unions) are provided with the anonymised data to help them identify areas where they are doing well, as well as areas for development, for the purpose of improving the student learning experience for future generations of students. Our Staff / Student Liaison Committees (SSLCs) work with Faculties and the School to develop Action Plans based on the results.

Working together, we are Better@Bath! As a result of what previous students have said, and through working together, we are Better@Bath! Reasons why you have continued to vote your University and the Students’ Union to be amongst the best in the country include: Initiated a review of PGR student representation to ensure we have the best mechanisms to hear and act upon the research student voice at all levels within the University Reviewed and improved the induction programme Ensured that an annual report with recommendations for action from the Students’’ Union on PGR issues collated from all the PGR Staff Student Liaison Committees is heard at the highest level each autumn

Will my responses remain private? The survey is undertaken independently by the Higher Education Academy The PRES respects student privacy Responses are confidential At no point will students be identified to their Supervisor, Director of Studies or Department - your responses to the survey are anonymised in dissemination
