Journal # 4 – Word Solve 1. Define “Word Solve” in your own words 2. Include a relevant passage (5+ sentences) from your book that contains the word. Highlight the word. 3. Include the word solve chart (you may adjust the format as long as everything is there) – it is on the next slide 4. An explanation of the significance of this word to your book.

dictionary definition: Read the entire definition. Copy down the part of speech, the appropriate definition in full. break word down into parts: Clap out the word OR use the dictionary‘s phonetic breakdown. my own definition In your own words, define the word as it is used in the text. Include details that help you understand the word. use in an original sentence Write the word as part of an original sentence that you create. Should be in the same form as it was used in the book. the word….write it out ( spell it accurately) what this word is not/non- examples Choose examples and non- examples of a concept, trend, idea, thing (things are harder!) quote from text Write out a significant chunk of the text. I should be able to get the context from the excerpt you provide. - -Use quotation marks. - -Write the page number in brackets. related words From Text: look around to point out words in the text that relate to your word. From Research: Research: Go online, read an encyclopaedia diagram/picture - Draw, sketch, or borrow f rom source.
