3. What Careers Interest Me?  Three jobs that I’d like to have are:  Veterinarian – a person given the job to help diseased or injured animals  Geologist- a scientist who studies Earth’s history  Art Teacher- someone who educates students about art and art history

5. Veterinarian Pros Earning a High Salary Veterinarians earn a lot of money. As a starting salary they get about $50,000. Interacting with Animals Vets interact with different unique animals. They can see animals of all sizes. Big animal vets often work at zoos. Small animal vets normally help pets like dogs and cats. Helping People Vets get to know animals and people very well. It feels good to save a family pet. Some pets are considered family members. Vets often serve as a counselor for families in times of difficulty. Cons Vet School There are only 28 veterinary schools in America. Students might pay up to $50,000 for a four-year program of school. Treating Sick Animals Animals brought into clinics are usually in need of medical help. They are often sick and might not live that long. Vets perform surgery, treat infections, encounter blood, and complete many other unpleasant tasks. It can be very emotional. Dealing with Pet Owners Some pet owners can not provide enough information to start any treatment. Some of them can be rude, impatient, and difficult to placate.

6. Geologist Pros Earth’s History Working as a geologist can be very interesting. They study Earth and its history. They learn a lot about rocks, minerals, layers of the Earth and natural disasters. They put together a lot of data. Exciting Discoveries When they make discoveries, they are usually fascinating and scientifically important. Cons Dangers Some geologists study Earth’s natural disasters. This can be a dangerous job in some cases. Slow Discoveries Geologists sometimes find a small amount of information when studying and looking for artifacts. It may take a long time to compile or even find the rest of what they are looking for.

7. Art Teacher Pros Seeing the Other Side Some students don’t show their true self. They may not express themselves that well in class. Most kids show their personality, opinions, and feelings in art. Art teachers get their students to experience creativity. Creativity has No Limit Most art teacher come up with fun and creative art projects. They can make sculptures, paintings, and 3-D models. *It’s FUN* Cons Messy Madness Art is not always a clean subject. After working with paint, glue, and even markers, a big mess can be left in the teachers hands. Bad Behavior Some kids don’t treat art seriously. They don’t see art as an important subject. Soon enough, those people start fooling around and don’t pay any attention to the teacher.

8. Which one do I want to be? Hmmmmm…?

9. I want to be a… Veterinarian! Becoming a veterinarian has been my dream job since I was about four years old, and it still is. I love to play and help with animals. When we visit people that have pets, I always want to play with them. My mom always watched me follow cats and dogs around houses because I didn’t want to be without them. Today she calls it “torturing” them, but I can’t help myself. I think becoming a veterinarian is the perfect job for me. I am gentle, careful, respectful, patient (most of the time), and smart. Every day in school I do the best I can to aim for high grades. When my mom and dad told me how important it was to get good grades, I listened to them. I’ve been very successful over the years getting support from my family, teachers and friends. So I would like to say Thank You. In conclusion, I will continue to be who I am, and do my best to become a veterinarian.
