1 PRACTICE DRILLS Some Drills are designed for ALL Players while others are specifically for Backs or Pack Members.

2 Three Lines of 4 Defenders with Different Assignments First Line has Defenders Standing. Offensive Player Power Steps into First Defender, goes to ground once his support tell him and last offensive player picks up ball to go into next defender. Second Line has Defenders Standing. Offensive Player goes into First Defender, Second Offensive Player strips ball and rolls out to attach Second Defender. Repeat process through line. Third Line Has Defenders on their Knees with Offensive Player going into tackle after Defender taps his shoulder to indicate which side to attack. Second Offensive Player calls for ball on “Right” or “Left” and first player POP PASSES to him. Repeat through Line. 3 One by One Attacking Drill to Focus on Defensive Strategies Players go one by one through drill. Players either make a tackle on the tackling dummy, perform a Loose ball Slide, or a Step over Pick Up. All points of the drill are done in succession and a second player starts once the first participant completes a portion of the drill. DEFENSE DRILL (ALL PLAYERS) Players Tackle Dummy Loose Ball SlideStep Over Each Segment of drill is set approx. 10 meters apart

4 One Offensive Player and One Defender Offensive Ball Carrier starts low with TWO balls and goes into defender. Defender makes tackle while Offensive player maintains possession of BOTH Balls. Offensive Player utilizes JACK KNIFE set technique with Both Balls while maintaining possession. 1 X HOSKINS DRILL (ALL PLAYERS) Drill is Practiced By ALL PLAYERS to improve “Setting” Techniques Offensive Player C Coach Defensive Player Sideline

5 Two Offensive Players and One Defender All Three Players start on their backs lying on the ground. Stationary Middle player holds a ball and taps the defender. Offensive player then turns to opposite side and sets ball on ground. Defender attempts to poach ball while offensive player clears him out. 1X BAYSIE DRILL (ALL PLAYERS) Drill is Practiced By ALL PLAYERS to teach players how to Clear Out a Defensive Poachers Offensive Player C Coach Defensive Player 1 2

6 Three Offensive Players and Two Defenders First Defender Goes after Ball Carrier to force him to make a pass to one of his two support players. Second Defender attacks either the offensive support player on Right or Left depending on coach’s signal from behind the offensive starting line. The original ball carrier must react to the defense and pass the all to his remaining open offensive player. The open offensive player MUST communicate and call for ball. 3 1 2 X X BLIND PASS DRILL (PACK PLAYERS) DEFENSIVE LINE Defenders Start Stacked with 1 st Defender ALWAYS Attacking Offensive Ball Carrier Offensive Players C Coach 2 nd Defensive Player Breaks towards an open offensive player depending on a signal from the coach lined up behind the offense

7 Four Defenders & Four Offensive Players Defenders line up against each other in Scrum Down Position until Coach blows Whistle and passes ball to back line. Defenders must TALK and break out to cover all four Attacking players and make a wrap tackle of ball carrier 1 2 3 4 X X X X TOWNSEND DRILL (PACK PLAYERS) Offensive Players Defenders are Engages with Each other in Scrum Down Position to Start Drill C Coach to pass out ball to Offensive Players

8 Two Offensive Players and One Defender First Offensive Player taps a ball to the shoulder of the Defender and all players run around cones on sideline to set up play. Offensive Players Must force Defender to Commit to ball carrier and make a good outlet pass to their teammate who is Steep and Calling for the ball. 1 2 X TWO ON ONE PASS DRILL (BACK PLAYERS) Drill must Be Run Form Both Sidelines to promote Passing to Both Right and Left Offensive Players C Coach Defensive Player Sideline

9 Six Offensive Players Four Offensive Players make passes down a line while steep. The last player offloads ball to opposing player at opposite end of drill who comes back again the other way. The TWO Middle Offensive players must run PAST the end line to touch the ground at cones placed on the field and then proceed back for the second phase of the play as the centers once again. 12 DOWN & BACK PASS DRILL (BACK PLAYERS) Drill must Be Run in Between Sidelines to promote Passing to Both Right and Left 3 4 5 6 #2 & #3 go DOWN and BACK on this Drill Cone

10 Four Offensive Players Four Offensive Players make passes down a line while steep. Please note that initial four passes are FLAT PASSES with NO SPIN. Each Player goes around their respective cone and spreads out to return back to original starting line. The second set of passes are much wider and require a SPIN PASS down the line. 12 CLOSE & WIDE (BACK PLAYERS) Drill Promotes Flat Passes for Close Quarters and Spiral Passes for Open Space 34 Cone
