2  Civic Responsibility - The status of a citizen including the duties, rights, and privileges.  Public Service - A service performed for the benefit of the public, especially by a nonprofit organizationorganization  Collective Participation – A group or organization performing services for the benefit of the public.

3  What are your civic responsibilities? Your civic responsibilities are the duties you are asked to perform as a citizen in exchange for your rights and for your government’s protection.

4  Your civic responsibilities are an important duty.  Responsible citizens respect the rights of others, vote, and work for society’s good.  When citizens work together the nation becomes a better place!

5  Public service can be performed by the government, individuals, groups or organizations.  Public services can include many things:  Individuals (Food pantry, clothing drive or other donations for the needy)  Clubs (Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Kiwanis)  Organizations (Red Cross, Volunteers of America)  Government Programs (Food Stamps, Social Security)

6  YOU can get involved in volunteering in a variety of ways:  Ask your parents if they belong to any organizations that you might be able to join  Check at your school for clubs or groups that help the community  Check in your community for groups that support a cause you enjoy  Tutor younger students  Spend quality time with a senior citizen  Look for a worthwhile cause in your community and get involved!
