2 *What is Summary?  Summary is the main idea and Important details

3 What is fiction?  Fiction is a type of literature that tells a made-up story

4 *What is drama?  Drama is a play written to be performed by actors

5 *What is an analogy?  An analogy is a comparison that shows a relationship between 2 things

6 *What is a simile?  A simile is a comparison of 2 unlike things using “like” or “as”

7 *What is an onomatopoeia?  An onomatopoeia is a word or phrase that imitates sound

8 *What is plot?  Plot is the action in the story

9 What is the resolution?  Resolution is the final outcome of the story- the solution

10 What is setting?  Setting is the time and place of the story’s events

11 What is the climax?  Climax is the point of greatest interest or suspense

12 What is conflict?  Conflict is the main problem the character faces (with others, self or nature)

13 *What is Personification?  Personification gives animals or objects human qualities

14 *What is a hyperbole?  A hyperbole is the use of exaggeration

15 *What is symbolism?  Symbolism is the use of one thing to stand for or represent another

16 *What is imagery?  Imagery is the use of vivid description to create a picture in the readers mind

17 *What is foreshadowing?  Foreshadowing gives clues that suggest what might happen

18 *What is an idiom?  An idiom is a saying that cannot be literally translated

19 What is an author?  An author is the person who wrote the story, passage, etc.

20 What is a narrator?  A narrator is the person telling the story

21 What is 1 st person?  1 st person is when a character tells a story (I, me, we…)

22 What is 3 rd person?  3 rd person is when someone NOT in the story, tells the story

23 What is dialogue?  Dialogue is when the character speak (usually set off with quotation marks)

24 What is a fact?  A fact is a statement that can be proven

25 What is an opinion?  An opinion is a statement that cannot be proved- some ones own belief

26 What is propaganda?  Propaganda is persuasion techniques

27 What are synonyms?  Synonyms are words that have similar meanings

28 What are antonyms?  Antonyms are words that have opposite meanings

29 What are context clues?  Context clues are the words around a word that help you understand the meaning of an unknown word

30 What is authors purpose?  Authors purpose is the reason the author chose to write- Persuasion, Information, Entertainment

31 What does it mean to inference?  Using what the text says to infer (or figure out) what is going on that is not stated

32 What is main idea?  Main idea is the general point of a section- Most important part

33 What does a complete sentence have?  A subject (who) and a verb (what)

34 What is a concluding sentence?  The last sentence that sums up the final idea of a paper

36 What are the types of verb tenses?  Past, Present, & future
