2 The primary goal of this course is to enable students to build a reliable storage of vocabulary. The course presents the students to some dictionary practice, varied topics, word groups, word building strategies and idioms and collocations.

3 Upon completing this course, students will be able to: Learn the meanings of the words through context since the contextual setting gives students clues to word meanings. There are some contextual aids to word meanings such as: definition, restatement, example, comparison/contrast, description, familiar experience and association: synonyms/antonyms.

4 Identify the morphological form of vocabulary(e.g., prefix, suffix, and root form)to help chose the accurate meaning. Recognize vocabulary associations such as synonyms, antonyms because existing concepts can be used as a basis for acquiring new concepts.

5 Learn to use the dictionaries to develop understanding of word meanings when they cannot figure out the meanings from experience, context or structural analysis.
