Network Services @ SERC Network Information Service (NIS) Single sign-on in all SERC machines Different NIS groups based on category Multiple NIS masters to validate requests Network File Systems (NFS) Single user directory Visible from all workstations and Servers Served by File Servers over the Network

E-mail E-mail accounts are given by your department. Contact your department mail administrator. SERC is not in charge of the Campus e-mail facility. Campus e-mail traffic flows through ERNET gateway (located at ERNET Lab, ECE). Your Department Administrator : your first point of contact for e-mail related problems.

Email Services @ ERNET Largest non-computing campus service Distributed control/topology Announcement list helpdesk@ece.iisc.ernet.in 14 hr manned support on weekdays

Web Sites Some major web sites in Campus www.iisc.ernet.in www.serc.iisc.ernet.in www.csa.iisc.ernet.in www.ece.iisc.ernet.in sunsite.iisc.ernet.in

Web Proxy Service ERNET Proxy : Set your browser proxy to : –proxy.iisc.ernet.in port 3128 –Automatic Proxy config ( http://ece.iisc.ernet.in/ pac/iisc.pac ) 24 hours open to all IISc users SERC Proxy : Set your browser proxy to : –144.16.79.58 port 3128 Only for Faculty during office hours Open to all IISc users during 6 p.m - 9 a.m. All the outgoing WWW requests from Campus are through Proxy Services.

Future Plans Campus Network Upgrade : Migrate to a switched Gigabit speed Network backbone, and 100 Mbps to each desktop : expected by end 2001. Newer Network Services : Voice mail, Campus Webcasts, Video-conferencing, and much more...

Network Survival Guide Know your Network. Use your Network. Respect your Network Usage Policies.
