2 The eleven disciples were bewildered by Jesus’ announcement of his departure to a place where they cannot come (John 13:33). Their confusion was turning into frustration; their frustration into despair. They left everything to follow him. But now their Master is leaving.

3 When we are troubled, more often than not, we don't see others' pain. But Jesus comforts his disciples in spite of his own distress (John 12:27; 13:21; 14:1).

4 Jesus assures us of the home in heaven (vv. 1-4)
