1 Lighting the Advent Candles

2 The First Sunday of Advent
After the candle is lit... Ldr We light this first candle which reminds us of God’s people, especially the Old Testament ancestors of Jesus, waiting for the time when the Lord would reveal Himself to them.

All We celebrate Advent – a time of waiting In preparation and Thoughtfulness, In anticipation and the hope of New Life through God’s Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Joan King.

7 The Second Sunday of Advent
After the candles are lit... Ldr We light the second candle which reminds us of the prophets, who foretold the birth of Jesus, and whose spoken words are part of God’s written word, the Bible.

All Help us, Oh Lord Eagerly to hear and Act on Your word. Remind us of Your Immense love Now revealed in the Good News of Jesus in the Gospel

After the candles are lit... Ldr We light the third candle which reminds us of John the Baptist, who proclaimed the Kingdom of God and baptised Jesus in the Jordan.

All Clear the road, All you who Long for the day when the Lord’s favour Is shown to the Needy – and through repentance God’s mercy is offered to all people.

21 The Fourth Sunday of Advent
After the candles are lit... Ldr We light the fourth candle which reminds us of Mary, who bore Jesus in her womb and followed God’s word.

All Oh praise the Lord, who Brings down the proud, Elevates the humble and removes the Yoke of oppression! We declare:- I am the Lord’s servant, Now let it be to me, according to God’s word.

29 Christmas Eve/Christmas Day
After the candles are lit... Ldr We light the fifth candle which reminds of the birth of Jesus, God become human.

30 Christmas Eve or Christmas Day
All Mighty God – mysteriously Entering our world, Encompassing all Time and space in the Incarnation – which Now brings the knowledge of God’s Grace and Truth to us in Jesus.

31 ‘Christmas is coming’ The Church is glad to sing And let the Advent Candles Brightly burn in a ring.
The first is for God’s promise to put the wrong things right, and bring to earth’s darkness the hope of love and light.

32 ‘Christmas is coming’ The Church is glad to sing And let the Advent Candles Brightly burn in a ring.
