1 A Tour of Washington, D.C. Our Nation’s Capitol

2 Washington D.C.  Do you know who lives in the house behind me?

3 George W. Bush  He is our 43 rd president.  He is the leader of our country.  He is from Texas.  His wife’s name is Laura Bush.  He has two daughters, Jenna and Barbara.

4 Where am I now?

5 The Capitol  The Legislative Branch is located here.  The Legislative Branch of the government is responsible for making laws.  Senators and State representatives work here.  If the flags on top are flying, then at least one senator is working at the Capitol.  Over 4 million people from around the world visit the Capitol each year.

7 Well, you’re not going to find Foot Locker and Abercrombie at this mall…  The pictures below were all taken at the National Mall.  The National Mall is an area in Washington D.C. where lots of monuments and memorials have been created.

9 Memorials and Monuments  The Washington Monument was built in honor of our first president, George Washington. It stands over 555 feet tall.  The Lincoln Memorial was built in honor of our 16 th president, Abraham Lincoln. Check out the back of a penny…look familiar!?!?

10 War Memorials  The World War II memorial was recently built to honor those soldiers involved in that war.  The Vietnam memorial is a wall carved with the names of those who died in that war.  The Korean war memorial is a field of stone soldiers. It honors those soldiers from the Korean War.

13 What’s in a Smithsonian Museum?  The Hope Diamond  Dinosaurs  Skeletons  Art  Costumes  Animals  Displays of American Culture  HISTORY!!!!

14 My Trip to Washington D.C. My trip to Washington D.C. was awesome. I learned a lot of interesting things about our nation’s capitol. I got to see some of the most famous memorials and buildings in the world. I loved walking along the National Mall. Every part of my trip to Washington D.C. was great!
