7 College Applications/ONLINE Texas public 4-year colleges: www.applytexas.orgwww.applytexas.org Many applications opened August 1 st Use the Fall 2016 application for undergraduates Follow instructions and PROOFREAD before you hit “submit”. Allow others to PROOFREAD. Deadlines are extremely important!! Check email often for correspondence from your college 7

9 Transcripts OFFICIAL transcripts must be sent from Klein Collins directly to college or scholarship committee. Fill out a request form (available online and in counseling office.) Transcripts are $2.00 each Give form and cash to the registrar. Send transcripts for admissions now; send final transcript when you accept admissions offer--final transcripts are mailed in June. A final transcript must be requested! 9

11 Letters of Recommendation These are not mandatory; check college requirements Select someone that knows you well ! Complete the Student Information Form (BLUE) ( Available in the counseling office or on the KCHS website) Give a copy of the BLUE form to each person from whom you request a letter—2 week advance notice!!! 17 Lone Star College Application : www.lonestar.eduwww.lonestar.edu TSI placement test No SAT or ACT test score required – but the scores can be used for placement A Lonestar Rep visits KCHS several times a month THE HONOR’S COLLEGE CHANCELLOR’S FELLOWS A select few will be selected for this program awards package includes up to 15 hours tuition/fees, books, and a $600 spending allowance – per semester. 10/8/2015 17

18 WHAT IS THE ASVAB TEST? A career exploration and aptitude test WHEN SHOULD I TAKE IT? 10 th, 11th or 12th grade WHAT DOES IT HAVE TO DO WITH THE MILITARY? The Department of Defense sponsors it and scores are used to determine acceptance and military jobs for new military recruits but that is not its only purpose! DO I HAVE TO BE INTERESTED IN THE MILITARY TO TAKE IT? Absolutely not! It is a tool for ANY student to assist in career planning, whether you are interested in the military or not! WHAT BENEFITS DOES IT HAVE FOR ME? A personalized career planning system and free access to career planning software. ASVAB IS FREE AND DURING THE SCHOOL DAY SIGN UP TO TAKE IT IN THE COUNSELING OFFICE….see Mrs. Grimm
