ANIMAL ETHICS ALL WORK INVOLVING THE USE OF ANIMALS FOR “SCIENTIFIC PURPOSES” INCLUDING RESEARCH AND TEACHING MUST HAVE APPROVAL LEGISLATION  Responsibilities outlined in The Australian code of practice for the care and use of animals for scientific purposes, 7 th Edition (2004)  In NSW, the Code is incorporated within the NSW Animal Research Act 1985 and Animal Research Regulation 2005) THE UNIVERSITY OF SYDNEY ANIMAL ETHICS COMMITTEE (USYD AEC)  Approval to use animals is obtained by applying to the USYD AEC.
