Finding Factors Section 10-1

What are factors? Factors are numbers that can be divided evenly into a larger number called a product. Example:1, 2, 3, 4, 6, and 12 are factors of 12 because 12 divided by any of these numbers is a whole number!

Write the factors of the given number. 1. 722. 37

What is a prime number? A prime number is a number that can only be divided by one and itself! In the previous example, 37 was a prime number! List all prime numbers less than 20:

What is a composite number? A composite number is a number that has more than two factors! List all composite numbers less than 20:

Neither prime nor composite Some numbers are not prime or composite. These numbers are __ and __.

Write the factors of the given number. Then determine if the number is prime, composite, or neither! 1.252. 23 3. 794. 63

Factor Completely 1. 12a 2 b2. 100mn 3

Your Turn! 3. -25x 2 4. 15ab 2 5. 84yz 2 6. -36b 3

Greatest Common Factor (GCF) The greatest common factor (GCF) is the greatest number that is a factor of two original numbers. Ex. Find the GCF of 36 and 42.

Find the GCF. 1. 24, 60, and 722. 15 and 8 3. 15a 2 b and 18ab

4. 75, 100, and 1505. 5a and 8b 6. 24ab 2 c and 60a 2 bc

The area of a rectangle is 18 square inches. Find the length and width so that the rectangle has the least perimeter. Assume that the length and width are both whole numbers.
