Several factors play a role in stopping people from having good time management skills. Attention Manipulation or control over situations Avoiding the task at hand Rationalization

Time is adjustable Illusion that there will always be more time in the day. People believe that time management techniques just don’t work. That organizing yourself is boring.

Its interesting that the skills we need to manage others are the same skills we need to manage ourselves: the ability to plan, delegate, organize, direct and control.” When a student works well with time management they will work to their peak performance!

Type A personality people tend to not take matters in a urgency basis. They over look importance. Don’t know how to separate time urgent matters with non urgent matters They may seemed organized but their thoughts are usually scattered

“Workaholism is considered a process addiction wherein self-validation is received from prolonged working hours to maintain a sense of importance or self-esteem” (Seaward, 316). These people tend to complain about the long hours even though they need the long hours to validate themselves.

“A time juggler is a person who tries to do more than one thing at a time” (Seaward, 317). These people tend to take on more tasks then one can physically and mentally handle. They also schedule themselves to be in two places at once. Since they juggle their time and appointments, less tends to get done then originally planned.

“Procrastination is a diversion tactic. Procrastinators avoid responsibilities and put off till tomorrow what should have been done today” (Seaward, 317). Three characteristics that tend to come with procrastination are laziness/apathy, fear of failure, and a need for instant gratification.

“A perfectionist is someone who is obsessed with carrying out every task and responsibility to perfection” (Seaward, 317). Tend to not see the whole picture or the task as a whole. The whole project is compromised because the perfectionist focuses on one aspect and completes that one part absolutely perfectly.

These people can’t say no. “they receive validation of their self-worth by helping people, often at the expense of their own needs” (Seaward, 317). These people tend to take on basic tasks like helping friends out or feeding an animal because they can not say no. They also feel taken advantage of after they do the good deed because they are not thanked properly in their mind.
