Objectives Participants will: Develop essential skills and tools for the completion of the 2010-2011 School Improvement Plan (SIP) Identify resources available to be used to complete the 2010-2011 SIP Increase the understanding of the school improvement process Make the connection between the SIP and the responsibilities of the Educational Excellence School Advisory Council (EESAC)

Pursuant to Section VI. I. of the contractual agreement, “An Educational Excellence School Advisory Council (EESAC) will be established consistent with Florida Statute 1001.452 to facilitate achievement of the mission of the School, and to ensure that the School meets the needs of the children and community it is developed to serve. To this end, the School will detail and address the following components, for its EESAC: (a) establishment of by-laws; (b) composition of membership; (c) election procedures; and (d) communication and posting of meeting agendas and minutes pursuant to Florida Statute 286.011 (Sunshine Law).”

Everyone received training on the development of the 2010-2011 SIP; Part I was due on June 18, 2010 to the OSI office via email; Updates to Part I and the initial submission of Part II are due on August 13, 2010; and Three (3)hard copies should be delivered to the Charter School office by August 13, 2010 Where are we now……….

Remember that this is a team process. The Charter School Office and the Office of School Improvement can provide assistance. Communication is ongoing for all stakeholders. Updates can be made throughout the year. Adhere to the timelines for SIP development. Provide assurances through EESAC minutes. Planning, Implementing, Monitoring, and Evaluating the SIP Process

School Advisory Councils (EESACs) The School Advisory Council is responsible for final decision making at the school relating to the implementation of the provisions of the annual School Improvement Plan. Each School Advisory Council assists in the annual preparation and evaluation of the School Improvement Plan (SIP) and in the preparation of the school's annual budget. – Majority of members must be non-District employees – Schedule appropriate meetings (5 Day notice) through Citizens’ Information website – New charter schools for 2010-2011 must create an EESAC. Contact the OSI office for assistance in: – Developing By-Laws; – Creating Rosters; and – Posting meeting requests and minutes

The SIP must be approved at the beginning of the year. Differentiated Accountability schools must complete a SIP mid-year report SIP End-Of-Year reviews and recommendations should be documented in the minutes Votes may not be taken unless there is a quorum present Anything dealing with money should be documented with specific vote and processes in the minutes Minutes must be keep and posted to the OSI website within 7 days of the meeting EESAC Reminders

The SIP is a blueprint that identifies your school’s needs and forges a path to follow in order to accomplish your goals; All stakeholders must collaborate on the creation of the SIP; It must be reviewed regularly and documented in the EESAC minutes; You should make adjustments in instructional focus based on data reviews; The timelines for the district and state must be adhered to; and EESAC agendas and minutes must have a bullet for SIP reviews which may include - Data Programs Materials Recommended actions SIP Reminders

Next Steps Make sure that your SIP writing team is ready to go. Schedule voting for open EESAC positions per your by-laws. Follow the Process Timeline document to assure District and State compliance for posting. Contact the Charter School Office or the OSI for further assistance.
