Examples of different formulas and their uses...
2
Take a look at Unit 9, it is the final project worth 120 points You will use Word to create a brochure Excel Powerpoint This Unit will take some time and is due on February 22 Get started now, do NOT wait til the last minute
3
Choosing a Chart Type Excel makes it easy to create a chart, which is a graphic or visual representation of data. Once data is displayed in a chart, the options to enhance the information for more visual appeal and ease of analysis are almost unlimited
4
A chart is based on numeric values in the cells called data points – a data point is a numeric value that describes a single item on a chart A data series is a group of related data points A category label describes a group of data points in a chart
5
Column chart displays data comparisons vertically in columns The X or horizontal axis depicts categorical labels The Y or vertical axis depicts numerical values The plot area contains graphical representation of values in data series The chart are contains the entire chart and all of its elements
6
A multiple data series compares two or more sets of data in one chart A clustered column chart groups similar data in columns, making visual comparison easier to determine A stacked column chart places (stacks) data in one column with each data series a different color for each category A legend identifies the format or color of each data series
7
A bar chart is a column chart that has been given a horizontal orientation – emphasizes the difference between items A pie chart displays proportional relationships – used whenever words like percentage or market share appear in the message to be delivered
8
An exploded pie chart separates one or more slices of the pie chart for emphasis A three-dimensional pie chart is a pie chart that contains a three-dimensional view A line chart uses a line to connect data points in order to show trends over a long period of time
9
A doughnut chart displays values as percentages of the whole A scatter (XY) chart shows a relationship between two variables A stock chart shows the high, low, and close prices for individual stocks over a period of time
10
Specify the data series For most charts, such as column and bar charts, you can plot the data in a chart that you have arranged in rows or columns on a worksheet. Some chart types, however, such as a pie chart, require a specific data arrangement. On the worksheet, select the data you want to plot as a pie chart, then select pie from the types of charts available.
11
Select the Range to Chart Selecting the correct data goes hand-in-hand with having a plan for what a chart should display.
12
Select the Chart Type After you select the range of cells that you want to chart, your next step is to select the type of chart you want to create Insert the Chart and Designate the Chart Location Excel places the chart as an embedded object on the current worksheet. You can leave the chart on the same worksheet as your data or you can place the chart in a separate chart sheet See the bottom of page 376 to see how to change the chart location
13
Page 376 of your text has a chart of Cell Selection Techniques – take a look at these, they will be very helpful Also on page 376 is a Table of chart types and purposes – sometimes the hardest part of the chart is knowing which one to use
14
Page 377 of your text has a Table of Chart Tools – again very helpful when creating a chart Adding Graphics in Charts and how to Change the Chart Location and Size are on page 378 – adding graphics really can enhance a chart
15
You can modify any chart element to enhance the chart and improve its appearance. Some of the most common chart modifications include the following properties: size, color, font, format, scale, or style just by selecting the element and choosing from a variety of options. Mini toolbars and shortcut menus appear as needed for you to make your selections. Pg 387 of your text – Tab and Format Features
16
A data label is the value or name of a data point Another component you can change is the color or fill pattern of any element in the chart. Colors are used to accentuate data presented in chart form. Colors also are used to underplay data presented in chart form. Enhancing Charts with Graphic Shapes Page 389 of your text – this is fun!
17
Unit Outcomes ◦ Create a chart ◦ Use techniques in Excel to modify and enhance a chart You will create a Pie Chart to Visually Display Expenses
18
Now that you have successfully set up your personal budget, added some formulas and functions to be able to analyze your overall income and expenditures, now you will be adding a pie chart to visually display your expenses Using only your Monthly expense labels and your Annual expense totals, create a Pie Chart on a new worksheet that will show how you are spending your money How will you select only those totals to put on your pie chart?
19
Highlight the appropriate data and create the pie chart and add that chart to a new worksheet. Add Data labels to your Pie Chart Ensure you also have percentages showing on your Pie Chart Add a title to your Pie Chart Rename the worksheet tab to Pie Chart
21
We begin Power Point Again be sure to be starting on your Unit 9 assignment, it is NOT a short one and will take you some time. We do not have a seminar in week 10
