One in ten books published in the world is in German 25% of the U.S. population claims German ancestry Germans travel more than any other nationals on Earth—you are likely to meet them everywhere!

Be organized Keep vocabulary lists, flashcards Review frequently: a little everyday Trial and error: make lots of mistakes and learn from them Don’t fall behind! Keep an open mind and have fun with it

Lots of listening and speaking in German Group work and pair work Frequent homework (10-15 min. per night) Lots of vocabulary A variety of teaching techniques are employed for various learning styles (visual, auditory, tactile) An emphasis on proficiency—using performance based assessments and demonstrating what you have learned.

German Club –first meeting after school on Monday 9/16, first event “Black Forest Adventure,” date to be determined at first meeting. Club T-shirt for everyone who joins (included in $20 yearly dues—due by Monday, 9/16) Culture Days (Oktoberfest, St Nikolaustag, Karneval, etc.) Food, music, dance! Active, “hands on” experiences

National German Honor Society— --open to all German Club members in good standing (min. 5 events during the year) --must maintain a 85% average in German all year and in all other subjects. --students will be tapped in early May --induction held end of May --must re-qualify each year for membership
