3 Carbohydrates  Body’s most important source of energy.  It can be utilized quickly.  Humans must rely on plants to get carbs.  If you eat too many carbohydrates and do not burn them, they can be converted into fat.

4 Types of Carbohydrates  Simple Sugars:  Glucose – in all cells, primary source of energy  Fructose – found in fruits  Galactose – milk  Double Sugars:  Lactose – dairy  Sucrose – table sugar  Maltose

5 Types of Carbohydrates  Complex Sugars:  Starch – potatoes and grains  Cellulose – dietary fibre

6 Insulin  Sugars are carried in the blood to cells.  Insulin is a hormone made by your pancreas.  It controls how much sugar is in the blood and how much should be stored.  If you do not produce enough insulin, you cannot control your blood sugar levels.  Could result in diabetes.
