3 C h a r a c t e r - H o n o r - I n t e g r i t y - S e r v i c e - E x c e l l e n c e Space Working Group (SWG) Authority and Charter Aug 03 – Memorandum of Agreement jointly signed by Brigadiers General Wagie and Weida in Aug 2003. The USAFA SWG is chartered to maximize the level of space awareness in each graduate of the Academy Review and coordinate all space education and training programs, efforts, and initiatives taking place at the USAF Academy. Ensure all mission elements are fully aware of each others efforts in space education and training (SE&T). Provide recommendations to leverage and coordinate these efforts to the greatest extent possible.

4 C h a r a c t e r - H o n o r - I n t e g r i t y - S e r v i c e - E x c e l l e n c e Directed Participation Each of the following Departments/Units will provide a field grade officer or a civilian with academic rank of Assistant Professor or greater to serve on the SWG for a period of 1 year. 34EDG (and the function formerly known as - 34TRW/CCL) 34ES – Major Andrew Conn/Major Gerry Ward 50ES – Major Mark Salas/Major Richard VanHook DF Directorate of Education – Lt Col Gary Dameron Department of Aeronautics – Lt Col Steven Senator Department of Astronautics – Lt Col Swanson/Lt Col Van Wirt Department of Computer Science – Lt Col Jason Moore Department of Economics & Geography – Lt Col William George Department of Law - Major Christa S Cothrel Department of Physics – Lt Col Ryan Haaland/Professor Delores Knipps Department of Political Science – Lt Col Mick Gleason Additional members can be voluntarily added at any time to accommodate taskings such as program reviews or significant coordination efforts. Department of History – Major John Grenier Department of Engineering Mechanics – Lt Col Larry Butkus Directorate of Research – Lt Col Rob Fredell Chairmanship of the SWG will selected by members of the SWG and rotate every 2 years.

5 C h a r a c t e r - H o n o r - I n t e g r i t y - S e r v i c e - E x c e l l e n c e SWG Purpose 1. Draft an SE&T Strategic Plan and s taff for approval by 34TRW/CC and USAFA/DF. 2. Meet at least Quarterly. 3. Assess each SE&T program/effort/initiative and make recommendations for cross-mission cooperation and coordination. 4. Recommend changes to the SE&T strategic plan/vision when appropriate. 5. The SWG chairman should ensure that an annual report is produced that summarizes the group’s findings and discussions. 6. The SWG represents USAFA in cooperative efforts with AFSPC, Air University, AFIT, the Space Foundation, the Colorado Space Advocacy, the National Space Science Technology Institute, and other organizations promoting SE&T.

Graduate Air Force leaders fully able to exploit the ultimate high ground in support of US National interests.
