3 Background 3 According to RCW 43.372, Marine Planning Law – Marine Spatial Planning (MSP) is a public process of analyzing and allocating the spatial and temporal distribution of human activities in marine environments to achieve ecological, economic, and social objectives. Coordinating decisions – NON-regulatory Multi-use Uses spatial data – often displayed as maps Proactive

4 Scope of MSP 4 INTENT: Address location of potential new marine uses. PLAN GOALS/OBJECTIVES: Protect existing uses Protect cultural uses/resources Preserve environment Integrate decision-making Provide new economic opportunities NON-REGULATORY PLAN The study area is 700 fathoms offshore and includes federal waters and estuaries.
