ACHIEVE The mission of the North Miami ACHIEVE project is to integrate opportunities for physical activity and healthy default choices for nutrition and tobacco cessation among residents through policy, system, and environmental change in order to reduce chronic disease.

North Miami CHART Team Who makes up our Team? – State Representative, City of North Miami Mayor & Council, Coaches, Community Planning & Development Department, Miami Dade County Health Department, Department of Transportation, 3 Local Universities, United Healthcare, Members of the Wellness Committee for the Miami Dade County School Board/University of Miami Pediatric School of Medicine, and several community based organization leaders that work with the City. The CHART brings energy to the ACHIEVE initiative along with professional expertise in the various sectors. The elected officials provide support and access to the leaders of the community to enable POLICY changes. The CHART is the KEY to developing your plan to ultimately reduce chronic disease in your city!

North Miami North Miami is a multi-ethnic community with over 60,000 residents. It shares South Florida's joy and excitement, and exemplifies the vibrant diversity upon which the region thrives. North Miami is a unique microcosm of complex and rich cultures, languages, ages, and races.

Why Get Involved? -In the City of North Miami thirty-eight percent of adults and 13 percent of youth are considered obese - The promotion of health and wellness and the encouragement of developing habits of physical activity will reduce the risk of many chronic diseases and conditions -North Miami is committed to building a healthier community

ACHIEVE’s GOALS North Miami's goals are to: (1) Educate the community on the benefits of healthy lifestyle behaviors. (2) Improve opportunities for physical activity within the community. (3) Improve nutrition within the community. (4) Make connections within community schools to facilitate good nutrition and regular physical activity.

Community Organic Garden Opens in North Miami The first public organic vegetable garden in North Miami had its grand opening. Now residents with green thumbs can try their hand at growing produce. Having a spot in the garden is free, we asks that residents donate 10 percent of what they plant to a green market that will sell the garden's produce.

Community Organic Garden Opens in North Miami The Asian-themed Dragon Garden is located in the Enchanted Forest Park in North Miami. One of it’s aims to teach children about nutrition, gardening and environmental awareness.

Healthier Snacks The City of North Miami plans to promote healthier eating habits for our citizens by changing the snack display at City Council meetings, Townhall meetings, and City events.

North Miami Get Gear Family Bike Ride

North Miami Get in Gear Family Bike Ride The City of North Miami held it’s first Get in Gear Family Bike Ride on June 24, 2010. Residents, City Employees, and the Mayor & Council came out to participate in this event.

Miami Corporate Run The city of North Miami participated in the Mercedes- Benz Corporate Run 2010, which is largest 5K in Florida and the third largest in the United States.
