Children of The Father In what ways are Christians to not be and to be like children?

2 Introduction Our lesson designed for those who are already Christians, children of God Since we are described as children, we can find certain characteristics that we see in children we should display We also find some negative characteristics of children we should not imitate No matter how mature we may be, let us always remember we are still children of God and should act accordingly

3 Lesson Designed For Children of God Gal 3:26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. Gal 3:27 For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.

4 Lesson Designed For Children of God 1Jn 3:1 See how great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we would be called children of God; and such we are. For this reason the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. 1Jn 3:2 Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is.

5 The Christian’s Character In Some Ways Must Resemble Children Mat 19:13 Then some children were brought to Him so that He might lay His hands on them and pray; and the disciples rebuked them. Mat 19:14 But Jesus said, "Let the children alone, and do not hinder them from coming to Me; for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." Mat 19:15 After laying His hands on them, He departed from there.

6 The Christian’s Character In Some Ways Must Not Resemble Children 1Co 14:20 Brethren, do not be children in your thinking; yet in evil be infants, but in your thinking be mature.

7 Vain Youthful Ways Ecc 11:9 Rejoice, young man, during your childhood, and let your heart be pleasant during the days of young manhood. And follow the impulses of your heart and the desires of your eyes. Yet know that God will bring you to judgment for all these things. Ecc 11:10 So, remove grief and anger from your heart and put away pain from your body, because childhood and the prime of life are fleeting.

8 Vain Youthful Ways Ecc 12:1 Remember also your Creator in the days of your youth, before the evil days come and the years draw near when you will say, "I have no delight in them";

9 Ignorance 1Pe 1:14 As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance, Heb 5:12 For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you have need again for someone to teach you the elementary principles of the oracles of God, and you have come to need milk and not solid food.

10 Ignorance Heb 5:13 For everyone who partakes only of milk is not accustomed to the word of righteousness, for he is an infant. Heb 5:14 But solid food is for the mature, who because of practice have their senses trained to discern good and evil.

11 Unwise 1Co 14:20 Brethren, do not be children in your thinking; yet in evil be infants, but in your thinking be mature. Col 4:5 Conduct yourselves with wisdom toward outsiders, making the most of the opportunity. Col 4:6 Let your speech always be with grace, as though seasoned with salt, so that you will know how you should respond to each person.

12 Unstable Eph 4:14 As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming; Eph 4:15 but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ,

13 Unstable Eph 4:16 from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love.

14 Lacking In Courage 1Co 16:13 Be on the alert, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. 1Co 16:14 Let all that you do be done in love.

15 Humble Mat 18:1 At that time the disciples came to Jesus and said, "Who then is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?" Mat 18:2 And He called a child to Himself and set him before them, Mat 18:3 and said, "Truly I say to you, unless you are converted and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.

16 Humble Mat 18:4 "Whoever then humbles himself as this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Mat 18:5 "And whoever receives one such child in My name receives Me; Mat 18:6 but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him to have a heavy millstone hung around his neck, and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.

17 Lack of Malice and Ill-will 1Co 14:20 Brethren, do not be children in your thinking; yet in evil be infants, but in your thinking be mature.

18 Lack of Malice and Ill-will Eph 4:26 BE ANGRY, AND yet DO NOT SIN; do not let the sun go down on your anger, Eph 4:27 and do not give the devil an opportunity.

19 Lack of Malice and Ill-will Eph 4:31 Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Eph 4:32 Be kind to one another, tender- hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you.

20 Obedient 1Pe 1:13 Therefore, prepare your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 1Pe 1:14 As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance,

21 Obedient 1Pe 1:15 but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior; 1Pe 1:16 because it is written, "YOU SHALL BE HOLY, FOR I AM HOLY." Eph 5:21 and be subject to one another in the fear of Christ.

22 Willingly Receive Exhortation 1Th 2:7 But we proved to be gentle among you, as a nursing mother tenderly cares for her own children. 1Th 2:8 Having so fond an affection for you, we were well-pleased to impart to you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become very dear to us.

23 Willingly Receive Exhortation 1Th 2:9 For you recall, brethren, our labor and hardship, how working night and day so as not to be a burden to any of you, we proclaimed to you the gospel of God. 1Th 2:10 You are witnesses, and so is God, how devoutly and uprightly and blamelessly we behaved toward you believers;

24 Willingly Receive Exhortation 1Th 2:11 just as you know how we were exhorting and encouraging and imploring each one of you as a father would his own children, 1Th 2:12 so that you would walk in a manner worthy of the God who calls you into His own kingdom and glory.

25 Willingly Receive Exhortation 1Th 2:13 For this reason we also constantly thank God that when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but for what it really is, the word of God, which also performs its work in you who believe.

26 Innocent Php 2:12 So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling; Php 2:13 for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.

27 Innocent Php 2:14 Do all things without grumbling or disputing; Php 2:15 so that you will prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world,

28 Innocent Php 2:16 holding fast the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I will have reason to glory because I did not run in vain nor toil in vain.
