Out of captivity (4) Dyparentification 3 rd Sunday of The Great Lent 2013

Great Lent 2013: Out of Captivity ① Superficial relationship with God ② Pizza Slice or Bicycle Hub ③ Selective hearing and selective reading ④ Dyparentification

Dyparentification  A term that is used sometimes in family therapy in a good/bad sense, when the son/daughter is growing and rejects in a positive of negative way his parents control or advice

A son’s rejection  And the younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the portion of goods that falls to me. ’ So he divided to them his livelihood. Lk 15:12

1. Biological Dyparentification  Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 “ Honor your father and mother,” which is the first commandment with promise: 3 “that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.” Eph 6:1-3

Parents obligation  The righteous man walks in his integrity ; His children are blessed after him. Prov. 20:7

(St. Ephrem the Syrian)  Prayer rising in a man’s heart will open up the doors of heaven.

2. Spiritual dyparentification  17 Obey those who rule over you, and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give account. Let them do so with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you. Heb 13:17

(St. John Saba)  “Who would not love you, O repentance, who carries all blessings? except for the evil one, whose riches and possessions you have acquired.”

Children Obligation  Hear, my children, the instruction of a father, And give attention to know understanding; For I give you good doctrine: Do not forsake my law. When I was my father’s son, Tender and the only one in the sight of my mother, He also taught me, and said to me: “Let your heart retain my words; Keep my commands, and live. Prov. 4:1-4

3. Dyparentifying the Fathers  During the time of Reformation, the Reformers dyparnetifed the Church Fathers  The Church is committed to the ‘Consensus Patrum’

The Old Path  Thus says the Lord: “Stand in the ways and see, And ask for the old paths, where the good way is, And walk in it; Then you will find rest for your souls. But they said, ‘We will not walk in it. ’ Jer 6:16

(St. Augustine) O my God, let me remember with gratitude and confess to thee thy mercies toward me. Let my bones be bathed in thy love, and let them say: “Lord, who is like unto thee?.... O most merciful Father, “dost rejoice more over one that repents than over ninety and nine just persons that need no repentance."
