1
Warm up Find the mean, median and mode: Create an example of a biased survey question and a non biased survey question.
2
Bar Graphs and Histograms
3
Bar Graph
4
Double Bar Graph
5
Histogram
6
Bar Graphs A visual representation of data Require labels on the horizontal and vertical axis Values go on vertical axis Use the range of values to determine scale Items go on horizontal axis
7
Example In the 1990’s, four space shuttles were used for various missions. The number of missions taken by each shuttle during this time are shown in the table. Create a Bar Graph to show your data. ShuttleMissions Atlantis16 Columbia18 Discovery17 Endeavour13 What should My scale be?

9
Using the chart How could we find The mean number of Books read over the summer?
10
Double Bar Graph Same as a single, except it compares two items. Requires a key
11
This is a table showing the number of students who play a sport. SportBoysGirls Soccer 109 Basketball 1512 Track and field 810 Volleyball 516 What goes on the horizontal axis? What goes on the vertical axis?
12
Create a rough sketch of this data in a double bar graph SportBoysGirls Soccer 109 Basketball 1512 Track and field 810 Volleyball 516

14
Histogram Different than bar graphs Used to show change in intervals (1-5, 6-10, 11-15) Interval goes on the horizontal axis Must use equal intervals
16
Frequency Table To help organize data and determine interval Look at data and choose intervals of equal size that will cover all of the data. (look for the largest and smallest value and make an educated judgement) Count the amount of numbers that fall into the interval. That is your frequency.
17
Constructing a Frequency Table The number of named stars in a group of 34 constellations are listed below. Make a frequency table of the data. 7, 5, 4, 10, 5, 7, 2, 6, 8, 1, 5, 1, 3, 1, 12, 11, 2, 11, 2, 5, 0, 6, 14, 8, 3, 1, 15, 10, 0, 2, 1, 15, 9, 1 What is the smallest and what is the largest number? The interval must be equal, what should use?

When do you use A bar graph? A double bar graph? A histogram?
24
Closure Using your data from the pizza survey create a bar graph, a double bar graph, and a histogram. You may work with your partner but must create your own graphs with your own data. Remember to use labels and keys
