Music is important as therapy because it reaches and affects emotions. It provides a means of verbal and nonverbal communication. Also, music is used as a carrier of information making it an effective learning aid. Upon the completion of a music therapy assessment, a music therapist designs developmentally appropriate activities. These individualized activities create a positive environment and set the stage for success through a unique variety of musical experiences, such as singing, playing instruments, moving and listening. Music therapy helps improve self-esteem; the music program provides pleasure, develops sensory awareness, provides creative expression, motivates, stimulates memory, focuses attention, and increases social interaction. HTTP://WWW.STARCENTER.TN.ORG/MTR.HTMLWWW.STARCENTER.TN.ORG/MTR.HTML This is the URL to the resources used in the musical therapy department All of these resources lead me to thinking that this possibly could be used effectively in a classroom Using this strategy in a classroom can be beneficial to students who do not have disabilities because as stated earlier one of the main purposes is to improve self esteem which is needed in a majority of classrooms today
