Characters in Frankenstein Victor Frankenstein: Created the monster. Alphonse Frankenstein: Victor’s father. Henry Clerval: Victor’s friend. Justine Moritz: Framed for murder. The Creature: Kills innocent people. Robert Walton: Narrator of the story.

Characters(Continued) Kirwin: magistrate in Ireland. Safie: Arabian; Felix’s girlfriend. De Lacey: blind man. Felix: Always sad; reads aloud. Agatha: Faints when she sees Creature. Elizabeth: Victor’s wife and sister. William: Victor’s murdered brother.

Events Robert Walton writes a series of letters to his sister describing his journey. Walton encounters the Creature first, and then Victor Frankenstein.

Events They take Victor in and he recounts his life story……….. Victor describes his childhood and family history.

Events Victor goes to the University of Ingolstat where he studies philosophy and becomes convinced he has found the secret of life. Victor starts assembling a creature out of old body parts….

Events One night in his apartment he brings the monster to life. He is horrified of the monster’s appearance and runs into the street.

Events (Continued) While he is roaming he runs into his friend Henry. When they get back to the apartment the monster is gone and Victor falls sick.

Events (Continued) He prepares to return to Geneva when he recieves a letter from his father. His youngest brother,William,has been murdered by strangulation.

Events (Continued) While Victor is rushing home he sees the monster and is convinced it murdered William. When he gets there, however, Justine Moritz, a girl adopted by the Frankenstein family, has been accused.

Events (Continued) Although she is innocent, she is tried and killed. Victor takes a vacation to the Mountains where he meets his monster.

Events (Continued) The monster confesses to the murder of William and begs Victor to make him a mate as grotesque as himself……. Victor creates the female monster but then destroys her and dumps the body parts in the water.

Events (Continued) The Creature vows revenge and promises he will be with Victor on his wedding night. Victor is convicted of a murder committed the previous night.

Events (Continued) The body is that of Henry Clerval, the monster has struck again. Later, Victor falls sick and acquitted of the crime. Victor returns to Geneva and marries Elizabeth, he fears the monsters warning and that he is to be killed……….

Events (Continued) Unfortunately, Elizabeth is the Monster’s victim. Next, Victor’s father dies of grief. Victor vows to spend his life seeking revenge and departs after the monster.

Events (Continued) He chases the Creature into the north but cannot keep up with the monster. Victor is taken in by Walton and dies after telling his story.

Events (Continued) One day, Walton finds the Monster weeping over Victor. Then, the monster journeys farther north to commit suicide.

Questions He robs graves and steals the body parts. 1. What does Frankenstein rob in order to create his monster? 2. Is Frankenstein…German? …NO!

Questions 3. How does the monster intend to die? 4. How does Mary Shelley get the idea to write Frankenstein? By burning himself on a funeral pyre. It was a waking dream she had.

Questions 5. What are Victor’s feelings toward his adopted sister? He loves her in that special way and eventually marries her.
