7. “The Scarlet Ibis” By James Hurst –The narrator is Doodle’s older brother. Doodle is a child with physical disabilities and severe health problems. Predict how the relationship between the brothers might affect the story. Respond in one paragraph. “At times I was mean to Doodle. One day I took him up to the barn loft and showed him his casket, telling him how we all believed he would die” (Hurst 557).
