Potential Spiritual Problems for Rich and Poor alike… Philippians 4:11-12 If contentment is key, what is the key to contentment?

Take the Word for its Word Philippians 4:19– “And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” Matthew 6:33– “But seek first His kingdom and all His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Psalm 37:25– “I have been young and now am old yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.

V. 25 For this reason…do not be worried. God is our Master Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Food–Live to eat or eat to live? An obsession—We don’t live because of or for our bodies. Bodies—don’t give us life but are given life by God.
6
Are we obsessed with OUR BODIES ??? Clothe it, pamper it, decorate it, exercise it, train it, protect it, heat it, cool it, build it up, slim it down, accessorize it, maintain it, rest it, wash it, cut it, shave it, tan it, treat it, etc….

V. 25 Do not be worried… German word meaning to strangle or choke. Worry is the sin of distrusting the promise and providence of God. One glass of water divided into 60 Trillion droplets results in…

Worry—What’s the Big Deal? Worry Denies…. God’s Love God’s Wisdom God’s Power By Implying… He doesn’t care for us He doesn’t know what He is doing He isn’t able to provide for our needs.

V. 26 All that birds feed upon is provided by God. Are you not worth much more than they? Does this mean we don’t have to work for the supply of our present needs? II Thessalonians 3:10
15
V. 27 Can a short person worry himself taller? Can you worry yourself to “life”? “Worry affects the circulation, the heart, the glands, and the whole CNS. I have never met a man or known a man to die of overwork, but I have known a lot of who died of worry.” Dr. Charles Mayo
16
V. 28-30 The magnificence that God clothes the lilies of the field with is more than Solomon in ALL his glory. He clothes so well that which is here for such a short time…why would we think He wouldn’t clothe us?
17
V. 31-32 Gentiles eagerly seek ALL THESE THINGS. Heathens seek and don’t know what we know!! Your Heavenly Father— Knows more about us than we know ourselves. Knows what our needs are and what tomorrow brings.
18
V.33-34 Spiritual before Material The cause of worry vs. the cause of contentment Seek His Kingdom—not a geographical territory, rather it is… John 3:3 Acts 20:24 II Peter 3:11--Anticipate His return and live in light of it.
19
V. 33-34 Seek His Righteousness More than outward acts– it relates to the purpose and desire of the heart – Matt.5:20
20
Summary Don’t worry—especially about the necessities. Focus on your life in relation to your service to the Lord. Living Right (needs) comes with Righteous Living (choices). Isaiah 26:3-4
21
Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more that food and the body more than clothing?
22
Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?
23
Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lillies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
24
Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we wear’?
25
For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
26
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
