TEACH US TO PRAY

James 5:16 “The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.”

Jesus’ School of Prayer

GIVE US THIS DAY OUR DAILY BREAD

Matthew 6:11 we are taught to pray, “Give us this day our daily bread.”

1. This is a prayer of trust in God, which dispels worry.

Matthew 6:25-34

When we worry about tomorrow we are telling the heavenly Father that we are not sure that He can provide tomorrow’s bread.

We are to trust His power and not ours.

We are to trust His promises and not the world’s promises.

We are to trust His character.

He is Jehovah-Jireh.

This dependence is best lived out one day at a time.

2.This is a prayer of contentment.

This simple prayer says, “I am willing to accept the things you will send into my life today.”

Rom. 8:28 “We know that God works all things together for good for the ones who love God, for those who are called according to his purpose.”

Being discontented with what you have and also not giving God back His tithe are the total opposite of this prayer.

Nothing says, “I trust you Lord,” like perfect contentment on the part of His children!

3.This is a prayer for all believers. our bread

Question of the day:

If God cares so much for us and delights Himself in fulfilling our needs, then why are we so reluctant to trust in Him and be content with what He gives us?

When you awoke this morning, none of you had even the slightest doubt that you would be able to eat today.

The invitation to pray “give us this day our daily bread,” is not carte blanche to pray for everything at QVC, but it is an invitation to come to God and

ask Him to supply our needs for this day and then to trust Him to do what He says He will do and to be content with what HE decides we need.

Robert McCheyne, a great, Scottish preacher who was mightily used by God until his death at the age of 29 said,

“God will either give you what you ask, or something far better.”

Psalm 37:25 "I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread."
