Endocrine System 2 nd control system of your body Chemicals control endocrine system These chemicals are called hormones Hormones affect specific tissues called target tissues Doesn’t react as quickly as the nervous system

Pancreas Produces digestive enzyme which is released into the small intestine Also secrete hormones One hormone, called insulin enables cells to take in glucose (main source of energy for cells) Insulin enables glucose to pass from the bloodstream through cell membranes. People who can’t make insulin are diabetic

Answer… 1.What is the function of hormones 2.What is a negative-feedback system? 3.Glucose passes from the bloodstream through cell membranes and into the cells. Glucose is required for respiration within cells. How would lack of insulin affect this process? 4.Compare/contrast nervous and endocrine system.
