Alpha Epsilon Delta Pre-Health Professions Society

AED is an organization for students that want to pursue a career in the health professions. We offer a variety of opportunities including: Speakers and representatives from schools Unique community service opportunities Medical student mentoring Shadowing A community of pre-med students at Vanderbilt

National AED is an honor society Can apply after completing 3 semesters of pre-med coursework Must have a 3.2 GPA in pre-med classes and a 3.2 overall GPA Benefits: ▪ Priority in Vanderbilt AED events ▪ Opportunity to attend bi-annual National convention ▪ Membership in an organization recognized by the Association of College Honor Societies Vanderbilt AED is open to all Vanderbilt students

Must earn 7 points per semester At least 2 of these must be from health- related community service Each service event or meeting counts as 1 point Can check total points online Student with most points for month wins Member of the Month and a prize

Tentative Events: Mock Interviews Meet and Greet Tailgate Bowling Suturing Lesson Vanderbilt University Medical Center tour Sign up on the google-doc on the AED website mentoring page

Manages all financial transactions within the organization. Maintains budget and reconciles account through the Vanderbilt Accounting System Responsible for AED’s application for AcFee funding in January What you should know: NO DUES this year If AED owes you money for some reason, talk to me.

“Already signed up to shadow this semester?” MANDATORY Shadowing Orientation Meeting Wednesday, September 15 th at 6pm SC 4327 Bring completed requirements No incomplete packets accepted! See email for assignments and paperwork No more spots open this semester; apply later for the spring semester Apply early! Current waitlist will shadow in the spring

At least 2 of the 7 required points must come from health or science related service. Each AED service event can count towards 1 point. Although the 2 service points do not have to be earned through AED, we encourage members to take advantage of the service opportunities provided by the organization. Examples of outside service activities that can count as a point: VSVS Dance Marathon Circle K Healthy Head Start Unite for Sight Vanderbilt CARES Vanderbilt Operation Smile Vanderbilt Wishmakers Individual volunteering at a hospital or health care clinic

AED Service Trip 2011 TEGUCIGULPA, HONDURAS Important Info: Trip Dates: March 5-12, 2011 Rough Cost: $1800 (2 $500 Scholarships Awarded) Plan: 2 days working in clinic, 1 day observing Honduran Doctors in Hospital, 1 day in schools teaching about dental hygiene and eye screening, 1 day painting hospital, 1 day at the beach!

In addition to providing students with relevant information and resources, our goal is to create a pre-med community. AED social events – AED dinners, bowling, football tailgate Casual meetings with upperclassmen Course recommendations and consultations
