Before you leave make sure to complete… Mad Lib list sheet (adjective, verb, etc.) Form from Mrs. Frey with addresses if you know the information Sign and fill out both sides of permission slip Inclement Weather Form if you have all pertinent info RED PENS ARE ON ROUND TABLE if you need one THIS LIST WILL COME BACK UP AT THE END

DO WE HAVE HOMEWORK??? Homework and Agendas YES!!! Agenda – check daily to keep updated on homework – no signature needed Agenda is done over the weekend-copied from the blog Practice multiplication facts. Read 20 minutes nightly.

More homework questions? ALTERNATING FOCUS-One week spelling, the next week vocabulary Many of the homework assignments will be online (write a note to send in with your child if you have internet problems or website problems while doing homework) How will I know if my child is completing the homework? 1) check his/her homework each night 2) keep aware of daily homework by accessing blog (perhaps a printed copy on the frig) 3) the behavior report will tell you if an assignment wasn’t fully completed

Thursday Folders and Central Intelligence Folders Your child has a colorful set of folders called the Central Intelligence. This is how we keep organized. Please do not remove any papers from this folder without returning them. Many of the papers are work in progress or reference sheets. Scored papers and school fliers go home on Thursday in red Thursday folders. Some papers may need to be signed and returned. Please only keep papers from “Graded Papers to Keep” pocket.

How Do I Know How My Child Is Doing? Look over Thursday papers and help your child with areas that they might have missed some questions. Be aware of the grades. Weekly reports will indicate if a child is struggling with an academic concept Synergy, our online gradebook, will be accessible very soon. Passwords to come. Progress reports sent home for signature

Grading Scale 90 – 100 = A 80 – 89 = B 74 – 79 = C 70 – 73 = D 69 or below = F

Reading Logs and AR Students should record number of minutes read each day on their reading logs. Reading logs are to be signed every Thursday night Accelerated Reader Incentive Plan- the students are ENCOURAGED to take AR tests. The students who earned 20 points the first nine weeks will be invited to a READING CELEBRATION.

Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl and Book Club Two exciting opportunities to get your kiddos reading HRRB- read books from a list of award winning books and write questions about them-then you compete in a quiz bowl- VERY FUN! Book club- read a book and meet with a small group of kids to discuss and enjoy the story groups offered by the MEDIA CENTER 3 rd club offered- MBTV –applications due August 24th

Scholastic Book Club Students will be given the opportunity to order books from Scholastic at very reasonable prices. I will send home flyers, but you can always go online and order books. ONLY online orders will be submitted NO CHECKS should be sent to school –please pay online

FOOD!!! ONE ALLERGY KNOWN-peanuts by ingestion We have snack right after specials at 9:40. Please send in a snack – believe me the kids are hungry Also send in water bottles- it is a more efficient way to hydrate then kids leaving the room to go to the water fountain! Birthday treats- please let me know in advance and try to make the treat easy to pass out- if you can find a treat from a peanut free facility that would be fabulous! LUNCH 11:50-12:20

Transportation If there is a change in your child’s afternoon transportation, it must be done in writing to the school before the end of the day. Please use official CCSD bus pass for changes in bus transportation.- there is a NEW one DO NOT email changes – the internet might be down or I might be so busy I don’t get to check in the afternoon

From the Nurse Please re-confirm any allergies, medical problems, etc. Please stop by the clinic to update your child’s clinic card, if necessary. Please remember that ALL medications need to be checked in at the clinic by a parent.

From the Attendance Clerk Absent & Not Taken to the Doctor – Please send a note from the parent stating the dates and illness. Absent & Taken to the Doctor – Please send in a doctor’s note. Tardy – Please send in doctor’s note, dentist’s note, or dated note from parent.

From PTA Sail Into Reading fundraiser Starts August 20th-Sept. 2nd Students read a number of minutes and get sponsors to raise money PTA does soooo much for the kids, teachers and parents—LET’S GET BEHIND OUR PTA and READ!!!
